Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard of the Church Of God In Christ (COGIC) has been elected to the National Board of Directors of the NAACP, according to a COGIC press release. The appointment, revealed February 28, marks a milestone, as Bishop Sheard becomes the first COGIC leader to serve on the NAACP’s national board.
The Church Of God In Christ, one of the largest Pentecostal denominations globally, expressed its pride in Bishop Sheard’s election in the press release. His leadership, characterized by a focus on education, economic empowerment, and social justice, aligns with the NAACP’s mission.
“I am deeply honored to join the National Board of Directors of the NAACP,” Bishop Sheard stated. “This collaboration between two historic institutions provides a tremendous opportunity to amplify the work of both organizations in the fight for justice and equality.”
The NAACP, founded in 1909, continues to be a leading force in the pursuit of civil rights.
