Derek Minor is set to take flight with his latest video, “Take Off (ft. Ty Brasel, Canon, and KB).” The single is from his upcoming EP Your Soul Must Fly which is set to release on Sept. 1. The Nashville rapper stays true to form and gives listeners a trap-influenced record, full of lyrics that point toward Jesus.

The video for “Take Off” fluctuates between dark and colorful, somber yet energetic. Thus, mirroring the theme of Minor’s forthcoming EP by encouraging listeners, despite dark circumstances and situations, to rise above life’s challenges. In a summer that has seen hurt and grief ranging from Hurricane Harvey, Charlottesville and terrorist attacks in Spain, people are in need of an uplifting message.

Minor’s “Take Off,” similar to Swoope’s “#SameTeam,” features Christian hip-hop artists from across the spectrum and from different labels doing their thing. Independent artist Ty Brasel, Minor’s labelmate Canon and Reach Records star KB join forces for the song and video. Nashville rapper, nobigdyl, also makes an appearance.

The four rappers exchange bars and take turns shouting the chorus but the standout moment of the record belongs to KB and Minor. KB flaunts his wordsmith abilities with lines like, “Start up then invest/ Three stacks we, break out cast.” Minor quickly follows suit and raps, “Won’t you come take off wit me/This United, if you blocking/We might move you out yo seat.” Both artists flex their rapping abilities and show why they, along with Ty Brasel and Canon, are some of the bigger names in Christian hip-hop.

Your Soul Must Fly is Minor’s fourth project since leaving Reach Records in 2014. He has proven himself as a leader in the Christian hip-hop industry with a string of strong hits. Since parting ways with Reach, Minor has assembled a roster of musical talent at Reflection Music Group, home to Canon, Tony Tillman and Deraj. Your Soul Must Fly, a seven-track EP, is up for pre-order on iTunes, Amazon and at Reflection Music Group’s website.
