As a distinct media organization with diversity at its core, Faithfully Magazine has been featured or mentioned in publications such as The Washington Post; Vulture; Religion Dispatches; Christianity Today; The Federalist; The Christian Post; Missio Alliance, WNYC, Fortune Magazine’s “Race Ahead” Newsletter, and elsewhere.

Overview

We are looking for a rising junior or senior journalism student or recent graduate who is eager to join our web team in pursuing its mission as an Editorial Fellow for the publication. The Editorial Fellow will work remotely, and report directly to the Managing Editor and assist the Associate Editor while building on their writing/reporting, research, and digital media skills.

Details

The Editorial Fellowship will be for 10-12 weeks, starting in late May or early June. The position is part-time and the Fellow must be available at least 20-24 hours each week. Faithfully Media, LLC (Faithfully Magazine’s parent company) will provide a stipend of $1,000-$1,200 for the term of the Fellowship. In addition, the Editorial Fellowship may be done for course credit.

As a member of the editorial team, the Fellow will be expected to:

  • Produce 2 short articles on news topics/current events each week (assigned and/or pitched)
  • Produce 2 original feature-length articles or the equivalent by the fellowship’s end
  • Draft/schedule social media copy and weekly newsletter
  • Pick up other editorial assignments, such as sourcing photos, assisting with transcriptions, coordinating interviews, etc.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and editorial discussions

Requirements

We are looking for a self-starter who understands the dynamics of writing and producing content for an online Christian audience. They must be able to find news leads, jump on social trends, and produce well-written short articles with minimal oversight. They should also be able to handle critical feedback and improve from it. Fellows are required to have a basic knowledge of CMS applications (such as WordPress), good communication skills and a collaborative attitude, and access to a secure computer and the internet. Most importantly, the Fellow should value integrity, transparency, accuracy, fairness, accountability, and other journalistic principles.

How to Apply

You will need to submit a resume, cover letter, two references (at least one professional or academic), and links to 2-3 published clips. Submit your application via this Form (you will need to use a Google account). Women and candidates of color are encouraged to apply.

Deadline: April 30, 2021.
