Lecrae surprised Facebook fans last night when he announced today’s release of a new single called “Hammer Time,” featuring 1K Phew and produced by Metro Boomin.
The single’s release follows two collaborations with other artists, including “I’ll Find You” with Tori Kelly and “Blessings” with Ty Dolla $ign.
Lecrae hosted a Facebook Q&A where he answered fans’ questions while in Los Angeles, California, for the BET Awards, which will air live on Sunday at 7 p.m. CST.
Lecrae is nominated for the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award with his single, “Can’t Stop Me Now (Destination).” Other artists nominated for the award include Fantasia, CeCe Winans and Kirk Franklin.
In his Q&A, Lecrae hinted about the release of a new album later this summer. When asked how he knows when a song is finished, Lecrae responded that he shares completed songs with trusted friends who give feedback, but some songs are never released.
“I think some songs need to be written, but not all of them need to be released,” Lecrae said. “So I’ve written some songs that will never see the light of day because I needed to get it off my chest, and, probably, I wouldn’t have any more fans if you heard some of these songs.”
Lecrae also joked with Facebook fans, admitting he has never eaten a salad and enjoys jalapeño kettle chips for a late night snack: “They take you in. You say you’re gon’ get like two, and you end up eating the whole bag.”
