Megachurch Pastor Jamal Bryant recently announced his engagement to Dr. Karri Turner, a fellow pastor, with his congregation at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and on social media.

The announcement occurred during the May 26 Sunday service, which was livestreamed. Pastor Bryant spoke glowingly of Dr. Turner, referring to his fiancée as “amazingly beautiful” and “amazingly brilliant.” He shared the story of witnessing her receive her doctorate degree and feeling a divine message urging him to propose.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am, how happy my family is, how happy my children are, and I hope my church is happy for me,” Bryant told his Georgia congregation.

The congregation erupted in cheers and applause as Dr. Turner joined Pastor Bryant on stage, visibly moved by the proposal.

Turner’s Instagram bio lists her as a speaker, author, and entrepreneur. She is also the “pastor of cardiology” at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, according to her profile. She also works in the local DeKalb County government.

Turner showed off her engagement ring in her own social media post, along with a reference to the Bible in the caption: “And the Lord remembered here.” The phrase from 1 Samuel 1:19 recounts how God eventually blessed a childless woman named Hannah after an act of faith.

“My heart is overjoyed and my destiny is in clear focus. Love always wins!!” Bryant, 53, wrote in the caption of his own Instagram video post of the announcement.

Bryant, known for his charismatic preaching and social activism, has a large following, and his personal life has often been in the public eye. His previous marriage to reality TV star Gizelle Bryant ended in divorce, and their relationship has been a subject of interest on the show “The Real Housewives of Potomac.”

According to Bravo TV, which broadcasts the reality show, “The former couple had been married from 2002 to 2009, and together have three daughters. The mom of three has been very vocal about how infidelity led to their demise.”

After a failed attempt to restart their relationship, the couple decided to move on in 2021. The Bryants apparently remain on good terms, as Gizelle herself congratulated her ex-husband and his bride-to-be. “Congratulations! Very happy for you,” she wrote on Pastor Bryant’s Instagram announcement.

She was among the many friends, church members, and ministry followers who showed the couple an outpouring of support and well wishes.
