“We shall work for love.” – Nannie Helen Burroughs (1879-1961)
Celebrate faith hero Nannie Helen Burroughs—and never lose your place while reading!
Bio (on back): Nannie Helen Burroughs shot to fame at 21 when she delivered her pivotal speech, “How the Sisters Are Hindered From Helping,” at the 1900 National Baptist Convention. Knowing what it was to be denied opportunity, Burroughs founded the National Trade and Professional School for Women and Girls to help Black women get ahead. A sought-after speaker, she encouraged Black Americans to be self-reliant and to remember their obligation to future generations. “We shall work and dedicate ourselves to the end that all men everywhere shall enjoy the love of God and develop the best that is in them,” she told Tuskegee Institute alumni in 1934.
