South Carolina Pastor Relieved of Church Duties as Probe Reveals Wife Called 911 Before Death

Pastor John-Paul Miller, whose wife Mica Miller called 911 before her death, has been put on leave by his church.

“I, Charles Randall, by the authority vested in me as overseer, hereby release Pastor John-Paul Miller from all ministerial functions for a time of healing, counsel, and guidance, pursuant to our governing instrument,” according to an email sent to church members and obtained by WBTW-TV.

Solid Rock at Market Common Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, relieved Miller of his duties a short time after the pastor shocked the congregation by announcing his estranged wife’s death from the pulpit.

Miller, who reportedly has a “criminal record including multiple counts of aggravated assault and battery to which he pleaded guilty,” told the church at the time that his wife had a mental illness.

Suspicion surrounded Miller after he broke the news of her death, with many citing Mica Miller’s prior claims of abuse against her husband.

A medical examiner confirmed Mica Miller’s cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators also revealed that, on April 27, Miller had called 911 and threatened to kill herself. The 30-year-old woman reportedly told the dispatcher on the day of her death that she wanted to ensure her body would be found.

“I’m about to kill myself and I just want my family to know where to find me,” Miller said, according to the recording from the sheriff’s office, reported the New York Post.

The publication said details on Miller’s death were made public in an attempt to quiet allegations that her husband was involved in her death.

The New York Post reported, citing the sheriff’s office, that the pair met when Miller was “about 14 or 15 while [John-Paul] was 28 or 29, but the two were separated and their case was going through the legal system.”

Mica Miller revealed in a February 2024 complaint to police that “she had known her husband since she was 10 years old and that he ‘groomed’ her while she worked for John-Paul at Solid Rock Church — up to the point they were married in 2018,” local news station WPDE-TV reported.
