Miss Clara From ‘War Room’ Reunites With Priscilla Shirer in New Kendrick Bros. Movie ‘The Forge’

The trailer release for the new Kendrick Brothers’ movie “The Forge” reveals that Karen Abercrombie, who played the fiery prayer warrior Miss Clara in “War Room,” reunites with Priscilla Shirer in the new Christian movie headed to theaters this summer.

“The Forge,” described as a drama about the power of mentorship, takes place in the same universe as the 2015 theatrical hit “War Room.” That means Shirer and Abercrombie reprise their popular roles as Elizabeth Jordan and Miss Clara. However, in “The Forge,” Shirer also principally plays the character Cynthia Wright, Elizabeth’s twin sister who got a mention in “War Room.”

Of course, if Miss Clara is appearing, it’s likely to provide some prayerful guidance to someone in need. In this case, it’s Elizabeth’s sister, single mom and business owner Cynthia. In “The Forge,” Cynthia struggles to guide her son, Isaiah, in making better choices for his life. Enter Miss Clara, one of a few colorful characters who viewers of the trailer see show up at Cynthia’s hair salon. Miss Clara is heard praying in the background as the trailer transitions to other scenes.

In a previous interview with Faithfully Magazine, Abercrombie described “War Room” as her favorite project, as her lauded performance in the movie opened doors to roles in dozens of other films.

While “War Room” seems to have significantly impacted women viewers, “The Forge” is likely to be a hit among Christian men as the main plot centers on Cynthia’s aimless young son, Isaiah. Played by Aspen Kennedy, Isaiah eventually finds direction for his life through the mentorship of an older employer and a select brotherhood of Christian men.

Kennedy, making his theatrical debut as Isaiah, has appeared in Kirk Franklin’s “The Night Before Christmas,” the BET+ series “Kingdom Business,” and Tyler Perry’s “Ruthless.” Also appearing in “The Forge” are NFL star Benjamin Watson, Jonathan Evans, Jerry Shirer, T.C. Stallings, and Anna Douglas, whose comedic sketches are popular on social media.

The new Christian movie is directed by Alex Kendrick, produced by Stephen Kendrick, Justin Tolley (“The Chosen”), Aaron Burns (“War Room”), and Trey Reynolds (“Family Camp”), and written by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. “The Forge” was done in partnership with Provident Films and Sony Pictures’ AFFIRM Films. It hits theaters on August 23.
